When Your New Stock Arrives
- Water it thoroughly from above (to settle the soil)
- Locate your new bonsai stock indoors in low to moderate indirect light for the first week.
- MIST the foliage three times a day.
- After one week move it to its permanent location.
- Your new stock is recovering from travel bounce, forming new fine feeder roots (Only through these fine feeder roots does nutrition and moisture enter the plant.)
- Broad leaf stock and larches arriving after September first may turn yellow and begin to drop their leaves. This is natural - it's fall.
- New leaves indicates healthy growth; the drying of the soil within a day or so of watering shows that feeder roots have regenerated. This is the time to begin working on your bonsai stock, depending on the time of the year, transplanting it or finally shaping it.
- Remember you can work on the trunk and branches of your bonsai stock almost any time of the year, BUT reportting (changing the size of the root ball) is best done at times of the year specific to each plant. Please see "When to Pot Your Bonsai Stock".
